About Us
The site we wished existed
before we started spending money.
Independent AI video tool reviews built on paid personal subscriptions, documented test scenarios, and scores that mean something. No vendor demos. No press accounts. No paid placements. Just what you actually get when you pay for the thing.
Not a press account. Not a vendor-provided trial. Not a free tier. Every tool tested at the plan a real paying customer would buy, hit every limit, and document what happens.
No company has ever paid for a review, a ranking position, or a score adjustment. Affiliate commissions are fully disclosed and never touch the editorial process.
AI tools evolve constantly. Pricing shifts, features ship, quality drops. Every review is updated when something meaningful changes, with a visible revision date on every update.
How Toolspect started
In 2024, my team at a B2B SaaS company needed to evaluate AI video tools for a corporate rollout. We had a shortlist, a budget, and about three weeks. What we didn’t have was a single reliable source to evaluate our options.
The reviews we found were shallow, outdated, or written by people who clearly hadn’t used the tool beyond a free-tier demo. We bought the subscriptions ourselves, ran identical test scripts across every platform, and documented everything.
At some point it made more sense to publish those findings than keep them internal. Toolspect started as a documentation project and turned into a publication.
“Most review sites either list features pulled from marketing pages, publish scores that were clearly never tested, or bury honest criticism because the tool is also an affiliate partner. We got tired of it.”
— Lena Crawford, FounderHow Toolspect makes money
Some links on Toolspect are affiliate links. When you click one and purchase a subscription, we may earn a commission from the vendor at no extra cost to you. This directly funds the subscriptions we buy to run the tests.
Affiliate relationships do not influence scores or written assessments. A tool we’re affiliated with can receive a low score and a detailed critique — and has. Full details are on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
We do not accept payment for reviews, sponsored placements, adjusted scores, or any access that isn’t available to a regular paying customer. No exceptions, no grey areas.
